Showered with Love

First, I would like to thank every wonderful lady who came to my shower. It was more than I could ever imagine, and I enjoyed it so much. From the games to the food, it was so wonderful. I’m so happy they took the time out of their day to spend a couple of hours celebrating this amazing journey with me. I couldn’t ask for a better group of women to be surrounded by.

I never thought I would have a shower. I was planning an intimate destination wedding, and I’ve always heard I wasn’t allowed to invite anyone not invited to the wedding. I actually had people asking if they could come to the shower, and I learned that there are always exceptions to the rules. Since we had an intimate wedding, it was OK to invite outside the guest list, because they knew the wedding was family only.

My mom’s friend and my cousin, who both work at my mom’s salon, threw one for me. It was held in my mom’s salon. I was so excited when I received the invitation my cousin made in the mail. It was lovely.

Here’s the lovely invite my cousin made:

We played a word scramble game, which was perfect, because I love puzzles. We also did a round of bingo.

There was a ton of food. There was so much left over that I got to take some home to my “husband.” I didn’t even correct people when they called him that before we were married, though it was weird to hear at the time.

My mom’s friend captured a great shot of me.

I was so happy with everything I received. I live in what is considered a hippie dippie town. We eat all organic, homegrown food with soil that’s made from scratch. I decided to join in, and I had registered for a counter top compost bin from Bed Bath & Beyond. That was one of the things I got from my best friend since kindergarten.

My mom and little sister got me a backpack, since Mr. Sea Monkey and I love hiking. Inside the backpack were two collapsible canteens and a book about the Big Island that we could read on the plane. I thought that was awesome.

We got lots of bakeware and some gift cards, as well. Another cool thing we got was a guestbook for our house. Every time someone visits, we can have them sign it, so we can capture all the memories that we have in our first house. I thought it was a cute idea. It was given to me by Mr. SM’s mom’s friends.

They passed it around at the shower to get it started.

I had so much fun catching up with old friends I hadn’t seen in a while. One of the girls who came was actually the mutual friend between Mr. Sea Monkey and me. We had been friends since seventh grade and ended up attending the same college, so we stayed friends this whole time.

I also have to thank my beautiful grandma for coming. She was a second mom to me, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her. She was the only family (besides my mom and cousin) who made the effort to attend. I love her so much and can only hope to be half the woman she is someday.

So, that’s a wrap. I’m so thankful to have so many amazing ladies in my life. Thank you guys so much for this.
